Turtles!!
So I live on an island. And this time of year is when the leather back turtles come up on the beaches and lay their eggs!
Yesterday morning (with permission from out mission president of course) we went and saw them! We all met up at 12 am and had to drive on this crazy road through the bush. I was pretty much off roading on our toyota corolla. We finally got there at 3 am! There weren't a lot of turtles and none of them were as big as a car like people told us but it was still so cool! They were still really big.
We could only have red lights and no flash on the cameras so we didn't get any pictures really. When they're laying their eggs they go into a trance sort of and we could pet them! They felt leathery all right. The tour guide took us around to a few different turtles. The sand was so so uneven from all the turtles flinging it everywhere so we were all stumbling around in the dark. It was so dark and there were so so many stars! This was probably one of the coolest things I've done in my life.
It reminded me of a scripture, D&C 88:47. The Lord says that the things in this world are the "least". They are the least but this world and all of the things in it never ceases to amaze me! And think of how much more amazing the celestial kingdom is! Wow. It really was so cool. I can't really describe it well and nothing could do it justice. The turtles put so much gentle effort into building their nests and keeping the eggs safe. It was amazing to see.
