Buying Food
In Uganda, popcorn kernels (at least the good ones that actually pop) come in a can. You have to squish all the bread to see which loaf is the least stale in the grocery stores and speaking of grocery stores, there are no lines! You just set the stuff you want on the checkout counter and hope to be served next! Eggs are sold in flats of about 25 eggs and when you buy them, they put them all in a plastic bag so you always come home with at least one broken egg (The other day we broke about 7). If you are white and shopping at the fresh market the prices are always especially for you! Meaning they always jack up the prices so it's best to go to the same vendors every time. After you have bought SO MUCH food, you have to fit as much of it in the backpack you brought and then pile onto a boda with the rest hanging off of you and throwing you off balance when you go around corners. Buying food here is an experience.
