I passed out...

Don't freak out. I am totally okay. Accept for a bump on my head. This is a good story though!

So I have had the amazing opportunity to do rounds with an American Doctor, Lisa, who lives in the same compound that I live in with the rest of the HELP International volunteers. Today we went for the second time and I was just as excited as the first time that we went! We mostly stay in the NICU equivalent of the very Ugandan hospital. It's amazing how many babies they can fit on one regular hospital bed!
While doing rounds we follow Lisa and she goes through the treatment plan for each patient in detail. It's pretty amazing to listen to her think through the problem and then solve it.
Today we got to the hospital at around 8 am for the start of the rounds. I was pumped. I was really into the conversations about all of the patients and was amazed at how much I know about medicine! We were on the second to last patient in the room and all of the sudden I started heating up. Now the room was hot to begin with but all of the sudden I was on fire. I turned to one of the volunteers next to me and told him that I felt very light headed and was going to sit outside. I started walking and then felt like I was going to fall so I grabbed his wrist and then I blacked out! (Ha!) I woke up on the floor with a circle of people around me. It was pretty picturesque. An African nurse was fanning me off and looking very worried. She then helped me up and to another room to lay down and drink some juice. I made a full recovery.
Now I don't remember what happened between me grabbing my fellow volunteers wrist and toppling over. Here is his account in my own words. He said that I grabbed his wrist and then started falling over. I then took a step and straightened up again. Now by this time I had no control over anything that happened. I guess I ran into a wall that was about a foot away and then started falling and hit my head on a shelf. I then started falling and was luckily caught before I hit the ground.
It is a pretty hilarious story I have to admit. I can't tell it without laughing. I ran into a wall! I will always win two truths and a lie.
I talked with Lisa later in the day and she told me that when she has volunteers or med students pass out she thinks that it's just a natural reaction to seeing so many people hurting so badly. I would like to believe that but I think I just passed out because I was standing in a hot room with my knees locked.
